Manfred Karner Designer Jewellery Studio Diamond Shapes
When most people think of diamonds, what comes to mind is the modern round brilliant cut - and with good reason. Many experts consider this the "ideal" shape for a diamond because it maximizes a stone's sparkle.
But for those who want something a little different, a little more unique to express their individual style and personality, there are many other diamond shapes available. These non-round cuts, called fancy shapes, are beautiful in their own right and one of them may very well be the cut of choice for you.

Manfred Karner Designer Jewellery Studio Diamond Grading The four C's
Diamonds are graded according to 4 characteristics which determine their value - Cut, Colour, Clarity and Carat.
Cut
The cut is the one C governed by man’s skill rather than by nature - it has a significant influence on the value of a diamond and its ability to reflect light. If a diamond is cut too deep, light escapes downwards and the centre will appear dark. If a diamond is cut too shallow, light will escape through the stone’s base, causing the diamond to look dull and grey. When a diamond is cut to ideal proportions, light entering is reflected through the top of the stone giving it maximum fire and brilliance.
Colour
The colour of a diamond can range from a pale yellow or brown tint to the rare, much sought after ‘colourless’ white. Diamonds are graded according to their inner hue using a white to yellow scale, as shown below. The choice of colour is a matter of personal preference, but the most valuable diamonds are graded D.
Clarity
Clarity can determine the value of the stone and generally speaking the fewer the inclusions, the finer the diamond. Within a diamond there are minute traces of non-crystallized carbon known as inclusions which can only be seen under magnification. These are nature’s fingerprints, making each diamond unique. Inclusions are only visible to the naked eye in diamonds rated I2 or below.
Carat
Carat is a measurement of the weight of a diamond - 5 carats is equal to one gram. Although size is the most obvious factor in determining the value of a diamond, two diamonds of equal size can have very unequal values depending on the other 3 C’s.
